[X] Ted Dunlap – governor

Here it is. This is the place where the candidate for governor makes grand promises to get your vote.

I will spend your money to build a shipping terminal…
I will spend your money on railroads …
I will spend your money luring big business …
I will spend your money bailing out bankers…
I will spend your money building colleges…

Not me. I figure we should have a governor in this position, not an emperor, king, tsar or huckster.

It is possible that one or more of the candidates is smarter or better with money than you are. It is unlikely that any one of us is smarter than two of you. It is impossible that any one of us better with your money than all of you. Nobody is qualified for that job.

So the trick is to leave your money in your hands; under your control. Government has done too little of that for too long. We are all paying the price for that.

If the people of the Treasure Valley want buses, they will put their money into bus fares which will attract buses. We must not tax a man in Riggins to subsidize a bus or choo-choo in Boise.

I have extensively studied economics, culture and public policy from the Austrian Economic perspective. The free market and free choice are powerful, strengthening and liberating. Statism and central government planning has been, and will always be disastrous.

There are literally hundreds of things that our state government is doing with your money that are wasteful, ineffective and, in far too many cases, counter productive. Our economy will be immediately buoyed by cutting some of these anchors loose.

Watch these pages and the public pronouncements of the candidates for more on this subject. If they begin with “I will fund”, you can substitute the much more accurate phrase “you will fund” and the knowledge that he/she plans to take even more money out of your household budget. The result will be as it always is, less liberty, more bureaucracy, higher taxes and a weaker economy.

As governor, I will reduce government size, cost and intrusion. I will increase your control over your money and your life.
